The Idea

I grew up in a predominately white area. I constantly found myself wondering if the things I was experiencing based on the color of my skin, were things that other black people went through. But outside of my family, there were very few people I could talk to that would understand. Fast forward to 2020, as an active member on social media, I found myself coming across more and more stories where black people were sharing their experiences. Hearing from my friends and family about their experiences as well as remembering my own, I had the idea that we needed a safe space to tell our stories. To be able to remove even the smallest amount of weight on our shoulder by sharing our experiences. To be able to see that we aren't alone in the situations we face daily. To ask for help navigating a potential ongoing situation.

My goal is to create a community where we can share those moments that made us feel different. Our experiences deserve to be shared while we are still alive. We are more than a hashtag. We are more than what the media portrays us as. Our experiences are an opportunity to continue to push for change. Our experiences will continue to highlight the biases, racism, discrimination, violence, and microaggressions that society believes to be gone. These aren't a collection of my experiences or experiences I've heard through the grapevine. These are our experiences.

Our fear.

Our pain.

Our struggles.

Our anxiety.

Our challenges.

Our black experiences.
